Letlhaku agent slams Sundowns over stalled move

Pretoria – The agent of Mamelodi Sundowns teenager Kutlwano Letlhaku has accused the club of stifling the youngster’s dream of playing in Europe, following reports of a transfer offer from Portugal.

Mathew Moore, who represents the 19-year-old winger, told South African media that Sundowns risk ruining the player’s career by refusing to sanction a move abroad. According to iDiski Times, a Portuguese side has tabled an improved bid of R30 million after the first offer was rejected, with Letlhaku already submitting a transfer request.

“Sundowns is a great club for players who want to succeed in the PSL, earn well, and compete in CAF competitions. But if you’re a young player hoping to play in Europe, your dreams die at Sundowns,” Moore said. “It will be a tragedy for Letlhaku, and a missed opportunity for the club, if this move doesn’t happen.”

The Tshwane giants are facing a string of transfer-related disputes. Brazilian striker Lucas Ribeiro has reportedly approached Fifa in a bid to terminate his contract to secure a move to Qatar SC. Bafana Bafana defender Khuliso Mudau has not featured this season after an offer from the Middle East was turned down, while Namibian forward Peter Shalulile was linked with Esperance in Tunisia before returning to Chloorkop.

Sundowns issued a brief statement on Thursday, noting that it has always been the club’s policy to negotiate with interested teams worldwide, but without mentioning any players.

Meanwhile, the Brazilians will turn their focus to Saturday’s MTN8 semi-final second leg against Orlando Pirates at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with the tie finely balanced at 1-1 after the first leg.
