Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini used the 2025 Temvelo Awards ceremony at the Royal Swazi Spa last night to call for deeper national commitment to environmental protection and climate resilience.
The event brought together government leaders, municipalities, community groups and private sector representatives to honour organisations and individuals leading the Kingdom’s green transition.
The Prime Minister told the gathering that Eswatini’s involvement in international environmental platforms reflects a duty to protect communities, restore fragile ecosystems and preserve the country’s biodiversity. He noted that the Kingdom is entering a decisive stage in its climate response as it aligns its national laws with global standards such as the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. 
He pointed to new domestic reforms, including the Ozone Depleting Substances and Hydrofluorocarbons Regulations of 2025, which aim to strengthen national safeguards. He further explained that government is improving meteorological services, upgrading early warning systems that support vulnerable communities and ensuring legislation responds to both national priorities and global climate obligations.
He reminded attendees that Eswatini has pledged to cut 2.24 million tonnes of greenhouse gases by 2035 and is among the first ten nations to submit its updated NDC 3.0. He said this reflects the Kingdom’s readiness to move from commitments to practical, transformative climate action delivered with urgency and transparency.
The Prime Minister described the Temvelo Awards as a national reminder that safeguarding the environment requires collaboration among government, communities, the private sector, civil society and the media.
He commended all nominees and winners for demonstrating leadership and innovation across various sectors, saying their efforts reflect the kind of stewardship Eswatini seeks to promote as it builds a climate resilient and sustainable future.
