SITEKI – A 36-year-old man from Mambane and a 20-year-old woman from Othandweni were arrested on December 5, 2025, in connection with the theft of a firearm and ammunition from a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when a 57-year-old man from Vikizijula reported that his 9mm pistol had been stolen after giving the suspects a lift. The two had visited the man’s homestead earlier that day, and the victim, on his way to drop them off at Kalanga, stopped at a shop. It was during this brief stop that the 36-year-old man allegedly took the firearm, which was secured inside the vehicle’s cabin holder.
After dropping the suspects off, the victim discovered the firearm missing and immediately reported the theft to Siteki Police. While filing the report, he spotted the 36-year-old man, who was already being escorted by officers for a separate case. He pointed him out as the alleged thief. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to the theft and led police to the woman, who had already returned home to Mambane.
The woman, found in Maphungwane, was in possession of the stolen 9mm pistol and nine live rounds of ammunition. She was charged with violating the Arms and Ammunition Act, as she had no valid license for the weapon.
Both suspects are set to appear before the Siteki Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges related to theft and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
