Prince Lerotholi to lead polytechnic

Maseru – Many people gathered at Lerotholi Polytechnic in Maseru on December 12, 2025, for the inauguration of Prince Lerotholi Mohato Seeiso as the institution’s first Chancellor.

Prince Lerotholi, 18, is the heir apparent to the Mountain Kingdom throne of Lesotho and the only son of King Letsie III and Queen Masenate Seeiso. He is the third child in the royal family and is traditionally regarded as carrying the hopes of the nation on his young shoulders. His birth secured the line of succession, ensuring the continuation of the royal family’s legacy.

The young prince is named after Lerotholi, the Paramount Chief of the Basotho who ruled from 1891 to 1905. This name carries historical importance, linking him to his ancestors. He has two older sisters, Princess Senate and Princess M’aSeeiso.

Students at Lerotholi Polytechnic expressed optimism about having a youthful Chancellor. Taelo Tsenki, a Tourism Management student, said they were hopeful the appointment would bring new energy and solutions to long-standing challenges at the institution, including frequent strikes.

Lerotholi Polytechnic was founded in 1905, following the vision of Paramount Chief Lerotholi Letsie in 1894 to establish a technical school in Lesotho. Fundraising for the institution began in 1898, laying the groundwork for one of the country’s key centres for technical and vocational education.
