A 42 year old man from Sithobelweni has been arrested and charged in connection with a murder that took place in the Nhlangano area in August 2024, the Royal Eswatini Police Service has reported.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody on February 6, 2026, at about 1100 hours after being on the run for several months. He is expected to appear before the Nhlangano Magistrates Court today.
According to police accounts, the suspect and the deceased, a 32 year old man from Ncangosini, were allegedly involved in criminal activities together, targeting people in neighbouring South Africa and scamming them of dagga. Investigators said a dispute arose between the two over a pistol and quantities of dagga that were in the possession of the deceased at the time.
It is alleged that following the disagreement, the suspect sought help from two men aged 36 and 40 from Nyamane and Mpolonjeni to deal with the deceased. Police reports state that the deceased was assaulted and later abandoned in nearby bushes in the Mozane area.
The deceased was reported missing by his family on August 8, 2024. Three days later, on August 11, 2024, his body was discovered, confirming fears that he had been killed.
The two men allegedly recruited to assist in the crime were arrested on August 15, 2024. They were later released on bail and their matter remains before the courts.
