Mbabane – Autism Eswatini has marked the start of Autism Awareness Month with a call for stronger support from medical professionals for children and families affected by the condition.
Founder Tryphinah Mvubu said families face new challenges as children grow, and while Autism Eswatini provides needs assessments and guidance, specialized services remain limited.
“Autism often does not occur on its own,” Mvubu explained. “Many children experience co-occurring conditions. Unlike other contexts where these conditions may follow a predictable pattern, in Autism each case is unique and complex. For example, a child may be diagnosed with Autism alongside ADHD, which requires its own approach to care and support.”
She noted that tailored interventions and professional guidance are critical. “Despite the difficulties, we continue to witness incredible growth, resilience and potential in our children. This gives us hope and reinforces the importance of the work we do every day,” Mvubu said.
