Netflix subscribers in Eswatini can expect a new action thriller at the end of the month as Man on Fire begins streaming on April 30. The series stars Yahya Abdul Mateen II in the lead role of John Creasy, a former Special Forces soldier battling trauma while seeking a new beginning.
The show is based on the 1980 novel Man on Fire by author A J Quinnell and marks a fresh adaptation of the popular book series. This version unfolds over seven episodes, with director Steven Caple Jr directing the first two instalments.
The story follows Creasy, once known as a skilled mercenary capable of surviving the harshest conditions. Now dealing with severe PTSD and personal struggles, he attempts to rebuild his life. His efforts are disrupted as he is drawn back into violent circumstances that test his strength and resolve.
Billie Boullet stars as Poe Rayburn, a young girl struggling to adjust after her parents relocate to Brazil. She spends time among wealthy international classmates until a tragic incident alters her outlook on family and life. As the only witness to a terrifying event, Poe turns to Creasy as her sole ally.
Alice Braga plays Valeria Melo, a professional driver with family ties to a gang operating in a local favela. After being hired by Creasy, she becomes his trusted partner in protecting a young girl and pursuing terrorists.
Bobby Cannavale appears as guest star Paul Rayburn, a former Special Forces soldier described as charming and protective, with a sharp understanding of violence and human behaviour. Scoot McNairy features as Henry Tappan, a calculating CIA field agent currently covering Brazil.
The series is written and executive produced by Kyle Killen, known for Fear Street. Executive producers also include Abdul Mateen II, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Scott Pennington, Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire and Stacy Perskie.
Viewers across the Kingdom will be able to stream the action drama on Netflix from April 30.
