A 23 year old woman from the Nkoyoyo area appeared before the Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 15 April 2026, after being formally charged with attempted murder by Buhleni Police.

The charge follows an incident that took place on 10 April 2026 at about 6am, when the woman allegedly gave birth behind a house in the Matfuntini area. After delivering the baby girl, she allegedly dumped the newborn inside a pit latrine.

The baby was discovered alive by an eight year old boy who had gone to use the toilet. The child was subsequently retrieved from the pit latrine.
