Mbabane – The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has opened a workshop to begin developing Eswatini’s third-generation Decent Work Country Programme, covering the period 2026 to 2030, with the process kicking off today under the leadership of Principal Secretary Makhosini Mndawe.
The workshop brought together representatives from the International Labour Organization, employers’ and workers’ organisations, members of the DWCP National Steering Committee and government officials to chart the course for the next five years of the country’s decent work agenda.
Opening the workshop, Principal Secretary Mndawe welcomed all tripartite partners and expressed appreciation for their continued collaboration and commitment to advancing decent work in Eswatini.
The Decent Work Country Programme serves as the key strategic framework guiding efforts to promote productive employment, social protection, labour rights and social dialogue in the kingdom. The new programme will build on what has been achieved in previous years while tackling emerging challenges, with national priorities aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The workshop will cover a review of how the 2022 to 2025 programme was implemented, identifying key achievements, challenges and lessons learned along the way. Participants will also work on setting priority areas for the 2026 to 2030 period, developing a draft workplan for 2026 to 2027 and beginning the drafting of a results-oriented and inclusive programme for the years ahead.
Mndawe told those gathered that inclusivity, evidence-based decision-making and a strong commitment to implementation were critical pillars for the success of the programme. He encouraged all stakeholders to participate actively and work together towards a shared vision of decent work and inclusive economic growth for all emaSwati.
The Ministry also extended its gratitude to the International Labour Organization for its continued technical and financial support throughout the process.
