EU skate competition brings 100 youth together in Mbabane

Mbabane – More than 100 young people from Mbabane, Siphocosini and Nhlambeni came together on Saturday for the Emaswati Skate competition at the EU-supported Lafezeka Skate Park in Mbabane, as the European Union continued marking 50 years of partnership with the Kingdom of Eswatini.

EU Ambassador to Eswatini Karsten Mecklenburg opened the event, saying skateboarding carried lessons that extended well beyond the park. “Skateboarding teaches valuable life lessons. It encourages young people to overcome failure, persevere and develop skills that are essential in everyday life, education and the workplace,” he said.

EU Head of Cooperation Eva-Maria Engdahl welcomed the growing number of girls taking part in the competition. “We are encouraged to see the participation of young girls and would like to see more of such inclusion in all sports,” she said.
