The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, led by Principal Secretary Thulani Mkhaliphi, has carried out an assessment tour of ongoing and priority infrastructure projects across the Shiselweni Region, inspecting key roads and bridges to determine where urgent interventions are needed.

The tour began with an inspection of the Buhleni Pier Bridge, a vital crossing serving the Buhleni community by providing access to Buhleni Primary School and the Mawelawela Community. Mkhaliphi and his team evaluated the current condition of the bridge and its overall progress, noting its importance as a daily link supporting social and economic activity in the area.
The team then moved to Mkhitsini, where they inspected existing road conditions and identified sections requiring attention, assessing the overall usability of the road network to inform future maintenance and rehabilitation programmes.

From Mkhitsini, the team proceeded to roads falling under the Gege Inkhundla, examining the condition of key routes connecting communities, schools, health facilities and economic centres in the area.
The ministry said the findings from the assessments would be used to prioritise interventions aimed at improving mobility, road safety and local economic development across the Shiselweni Region.
