Botswana tourism ministry and UNDP meet to deepen development ties

Gaborone – Botswana’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Abigail Khumoyame, met with UNDP Resident Representative Lovita Ramguttee this week for a courtesy call aimed at strengthening the long-standing partnership between the Botswana government and the United Nations Development Programme.

The meeting explored strategic areas of collaboration in support of Botswana’s national development priorities, with discussions centring on the ministry’s vision to grow the tourism sector’s contribution to the national economy and create employment opportunities for youth, women, indigenous communities and persons with disabilities.

The two leaders also exchanged views on sustainable environmental management and conservation, climate change, green technologies, biodiversity conservation and the implementation of Botswana’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.

They also spoke to the importance of stakeholder engagement, strategic communication and media collaboration as tools to showcase Botswana’s achievements and development story to the world.
