Addis Ababa – Ethiopia and Nigeria have signed a landmark legal agreement covering the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries, as the two African giants moved to deepen their longstanding bilateral ties.
The agreement was signed in Addis Ababa by Hana Arayasellassie, Ethiopia’s Minister of Justice, and Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Nigeria. It is expected to provide a formal legal framework for cooperation between the justice institutions of both countries.
The signing came on the sidelines of talks between Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos and Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu. 
During the meeting, Minister Gedion noted that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since the 1960s and called for continued coordination on issues of mutual interest to further strengthen ties.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu expressed Nigeria’s strong interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors and reaffirmed her country’s readiness to work closely with Ethiopia.
