Maseru – Lesotho’s Digital Innovators Summit 2026 has heard a strong call for the country to embrace innovation, invest in digital infrastructure, and empower its people to lead transformation, with speakers drawing a direct line between digital readiness and national survival.
Thomas Hines, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy to Lesotho, delivered a keynote address at the summit that set the tone for the gathering. His message was direct: the future belongs to nations that embrace innovation, invest in digital infrastructure, harness the power of artificial intelligence, and empower their people to lead transformation.
Hines spoke about advancing entrepreneurship and digital skills, and unlocking opportunities through strategic investments in energy and technology, painting a picture of a Lesotho capable of competing and thriving in the global digital economy. 
Kanono Ramashamole, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, also addressed the High-Level Launch of the summit and was equally direct about the stakes involved.
“Digital transformation is no longer optional; it is a national imperative,” he said.
Ramashamole challenged young Basotho to position themselves as creators, innovators, and leaders in the digital economy. He pointed to artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, regional collaboration, and global partnerships as the key forces shaping the future, and made clear that Lesotho must be ready to lead.
