Manzini – The chairperson of the Eswatini Schools Drama and Theatre Association committee, Thabo Maseko, praised the country’s students for their talent in drama, dance, and other forms of performance.
He was speaking at the Inyatsi Schools Arts & Culture Drama & Theatre competitions at the Divine Healing Ministries in Manzini.
“We know very well that it’s not a day of speeches,” he said, addressing pupils from different parts of the country participating in the competition, adding, “but it is a day of showing talent just like we are seeing here. 
“You guys were doing very, very wonderfully. We did a very wonderful job. I saw different crafts.”
It follows the government’s incorporation of performing arts into the curriculum, and it is now taught as a subject.
The young talented students presented drama, poetry, dance, and a cappella.
The event was themed “Honouring 40 Years of Legacy Through Arts & Culture” to commemorate His Majesty King Mswati III’s 40-year reign, Swazi culture and traditions, cyberbullying, and the impact of socioeconomic background.
Maseko encouraged the performers to continue their ingenuity, noting that informative stories were acted upon. Teachers, he said, were complimented for encouraging students to showcase their talents.
“I know very well that these kids did not do all of this all on their own, but they are pushed by teachers, leading to delivering such work. The Eswatini Schools Drama and Theatre Association encourages just that. We say children should do more art in school,” he said, encouraging more pupils to do a cappella and traditional music.
