Mahé – Zambia is chairing discussions on Africa’s tourism future at the 69th Session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF), underway in Mahé, Republic of Seychelles, from 2 to 4 July 2026 under the theme “Strengthening Human Capital to Boost Africa’s Tourism Growth.”
The Permanent Secretary in Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism, Evans Muhanga, accompanied by Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UN Tourism Judith Mulenga, arrived on the island to participate in the session, according to a statement issued by Principal Public Relations Officer Nelly Banda Chewe.
The session has brought together ministers responsible for tourism, permanent secretaries, senior government officials and tourism stakeholders from across Africa, including the SADC region, to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening the tourism sector and accelerating sustainable growth across the continent. 
The meeting is focusing on key priorities, including the implementation of the UN Tourism Programme of Work for Africa, tourism investment, innovation and artificial intelligence, rural tourism development, education and skills development, improved air connectivity, sustainability and strengthening regional cooperation to enhance Africa’s competitiveness as a global tourism destination.
The session also provides member states with an opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices on tourism policies, review the implementation of previous decisions of the Commission, and consider strategic initiatives that will contribute to inclusive and resilient tourism development across Africa.
As Chair of the Commission for the 2025 to 2027 term, Zambia continues to provide leadership in advancing Africa’s tourism agenda by promoting collaboration among member states and advocating for increased investment, capacity building, innovation and enhanced connectivity to unlock the continent’s tourism potential.
During the session, Zambia is expected to contribute to discussions on key policy matters affecting the continent’s tourism sector while reaffirming its commitment to working with fellow African member states and UN Tourism to foster a resilient, inclusive and competitive tourism industry that supports sustainable economic development.
