Manzini – The Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, has officially commissioned nine potable water supply schemes in Mkhiweni Inkhundla, Manzini Region, bringing safe drinking water to hundreds of families across the area. The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Mandla Tshawuka, also attended the commissioning ceremony alongside other stakeholders.
The projects are located in Lombatsela, Mphelave, Mcithazwe, Moyeni, Lukhitsi, Mtfonjeni, Simunye, and Mnjoli, and form part of a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy and World Vision Eswatini. The partnership targets improved water access across 18 Tinkhundla between 2025 and 2029.
Valued at E18.352 million, the schemes will benefit 706 homesteads across Mkhiweni Inkhundla. 
The commissioning took place during Children and Youth Month, a period that draws attention to the impact of water insecurity on children, young people, and women.
Speaking at the event, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela said achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation requires strong partnerships between Government, development partners, the private sector, local authorities, and communities. He praised World Vision Eswatini and the beneficiary communities for their dedication and cooperation in delivering the projects.
The schemes support Eswatini’s goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation by 2030, as well as the African Union’s vision of ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation for all.
Government has called on stakeholders to invest in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector to accelerate progress towards universal access as water infrastructure expansion continues across the country.
