Siphofaneni police have opened a murder investigation following the death of a 35 year old woman at Phonjwane on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
Police received the report at about 1.30pm after the woman was found lying dead on her bed inside her house.
She is suspected to have been assaulted several times with a hammer and a pickaxe. The weapons were allegedly used to inflict injuries across her body. 
The deceased had been arranging for electrical wiring to be installed at her home. The work began on Friday afternoon and involved three electricians who were known to her.
According to information gathered by the police, alcoholic drinks were consumed at the house on Friday night.
A local man who was also known to the deceased allegedly visited the home during the night. He reportedly had a brief argument with the woman before leaving.
The three electricians were the last people known to have left the house. They reportedly departed at about 4am, when the woman was still alive, and planned to return later that day to complete the electrical work.
When they returned, they found the door locked. They called out to the woman and noticed that her cellphone was ringing inside the house.
The electricians then looked through a window and saw her lying bloodied on the bed. They reported the matter to the police.
It remains unclear what happened between 4am and midday. Police said they were following all possible leads as investigations continued.
