Lusaka – Zambian Vice President Dr W K Mutale Nalumango has thanked citizens for renewing the mandate of President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development government for the 2026 to 2031 term.
Nalumango issued the message on Tuesday after she and Hichilema took their Oaths of Office during an inauguration ceremony at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. The pair began their second term following Hichilema’s victory in Zambia’s August 13 general election.
“Fellow citizens, with a heart filled with humility and gratitude, I wish to sincerely thank the people of Zambia for the confidence, trust and renewed mandate you have entrusted to His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema and myself to serve you during the 2026–2031 term,” Nalumango said. 
“Today, as we take the Oath of Office and begin another chapter of service to our great nation, we are deeply conscious that this mandate belongs to the Zambian people. It is a sacred responsibility that we accept with humility, commitment and determination.”
She thanked citizens who participated in the electoral process, including those who did not vote for the governing party, saying their involvement showed a commitment to democratic participation, peace, unity and national development.
“To every Zambian who participated in the electoral process, regardless of how you voted, I extend my profound appreciation. Your participation has demonstrated the strength of our democracy and your desire to see our country continue on the path of peace, unity and development,” she said.
Nalumango also thanked supporters of the New Dawn Government across Zambia, saying their support, sacrifices and belief in the administration’s vision had strengthened the leadership during the election period.
“I particularly wish to thank our supporters across the country for your unwavering confidence in the New Dawn Government. Your encouragement, sacrifices and belief in our vision have been a source of strength throughout this journey,” she said.
“To those who entrusted us with another five years, thank you for believing in us. We will work tirelessly to justify your confidence and to ensure that the benefits of national development reach every province, district, community and household.”
The Vice President said she would serve all Zambians without discrimination, regardless of political affiliation.
“As Vice President, I recommit myself to serving every Zambian without discrimination. My duty is not only to those who supported us, but to the entire nation. Zambia is our common home, and we must continue to build it together,” said Nalumango.
She called on citizens to move beyond the election and work together to expand opportunities for young people, strengthen the economy and improve living conditions.
“Let us therefore put the election behind us and unite around the work ahead. There is much to be done, and our collective efforts are needed to create greater opportunities for our young people, strengthen our economy, improve livelihoods and leave a better Zambia for future generations.”
Nalumango concluded by thanking Zambians on behalf of herself and President Hichilema.
“On behalf of His Excellency the President and indeed on my own behalf, thank you, Zambia, for the trust you have placed in us.
“May God continue to bless our nation, protect our people and guide us as we serve.”
