MBABANE: Central Bank of Eswatini Governor Dr Phil Mnisi has challenged stakeholders to consider how technology, data and machine learning can improve decision making as the country works towards building a technology driven economy.

Mnisi was speaking on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, during the ongoing Indaba X 2026, a two day forum bringing together tertiary students, young researchers, innovators and other stakeholders to explore the use of technology and data in Eswatini.

The Governor used the gathering to encourage students and young researchers to move beyond learning about emerging technologies and apply the knowledge to practical challenges facing the country.

“Over the next two days, you will hear how machine learning is already being applied in credit, financial inclusion, tax administration, and communications regulation. Take this knowledge and use it for your innovations.”

The second day of Indaba X 2026 focused on introducing tertiary students and young innovators to the fundamentals of machine learning.

The previous day’s programme featured presentations by students who demonstrated how machine learning could support resilient decision making in different areas of Eswatini’s economy and society.

Eight students presented case studies covering a range of applications, including web based business profiling, cash flow verification for entrepreneurs and deep learning applications aimed at diagnosing cattle skin disease.
