New festive visitation arrangement for correctional services

Matsapha – His Majesty’s Correctional Services has announced a new visitation arrangement for offenders during the festive season. From Friday, 19 December 2025, until 2 January 2026, relatives of both convicted and non-convicted inmates will be permitted to visit their loved ones daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM in all correctional centres across the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini explained that many close family members do not often have the chance to visit their relatives due to various commitments. The festive season, however, offers a unique opportunity for families to reunite as many are together and in close proximity. This new arrangement provides a special platform for families to visit offenders during this period.

Given the high population in some correctional centres, the Commissioner General urged families to coordinate among themselves on who will visit each incarcerated individual to avoid overcrowding. This is to ensure that every offender benefits from the visitation arrangement, as time and space for visits are limited. The aim is to create a fair and manageable system for all visitors.

All visitors must bring their national identity cards, and food items are not allowed. However, visitors can purchase necessary items from the tuck shops available in the various centres.

The following conditions apply to the visitation process:

Visitors are advised to dress appropriately when attending the visitation.

Visitors are required to bring their national identity cards for verification.

Visits will take place under the supervision and control of the Officer-in-Charge during the stipulated working hours (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM).

Visitors and offenders are prohibited from exchanging any documents, writings, or other items without approval from the Officer-in-Charge.

Electronic gadgets, recording devices, and any other technological devices are not permitted during the visits.

Visits are subject to any other conditions deemed necessary by the Commissioner General for the management of the correctional centre and the maintenance of order and discipline.

Food is strictly prohibited, but visitors can buy items from the centre’s tuck shops.
