Citroën launches Basalt SUV-coupé in South Africa

Muldersdrift, South Africa – Citroën South Africa has unveiled its latest model, the Basalt SUV-coupé, marking the third entry in its C-Cubed line-up. The launch event took place in Muldersdrift this week, attracting automotive enthusiasts eager to see the new vehicle.

The Basalt combines the sporty lines of a coupé with the practicality and ruggedness of an SUV. Its exterior features a high ground clearance, a prominent bonnet, upright front end, and widened wings with protected wheel arches in geometric designs, while the coupé-style rear adds fluidity and elegance to the silhouette. Citroën describes the model as suitable for both city driving and off-road conditions, with a focus on durability and passenger comfort.

Inside, the cabin prioritises space and usability. Standard features include a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital cluster, auto air-conditioning with rear vents, cruise control, keyless entry, and six airbags. Boot capacity is 470 litres.

The Basalt is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 81 kW and 205 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A naturally aspirated 1.2-litre engine is also available, delivering 82 Ps and 115 Nm of torque. Fuel efficiency is rated at 18.7 km/l with a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres.

The SUV-coupé measures 4,352 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, 1,593 mm in height, and features a 2,651 mm wheelbase, providing ample cabin space. Signature design elements include jewel-inspired 3D tail lamps, 16-inch urban diamond-cut alloy wheels, and LED vision projector headlamps for enhanced visibility.

Pricing starts at R354,900 for the Basalt PLUS 1.2T Auto and R369,900 for the Basalt MAX 1.2T Auto. Citroën aims to position the Basalt as a stylish, versatile addition to its existing model range, appealing to drivers seeking both performance and modern design.
