New York – Botswana’s Ambassador Masole has taken a leading role in preparations for the 2026 United Nations High Level Meeting on HIV and AIDS, co facilitating informal consultations aimed at shaping the structure and direction of the global gathering.
On 2 April 2026, Ambassador Masole joined Archil Bakradze of Georgia for their first informal consultations to deliberate on the draft modalities for the upcoming High Level Meeting. The discussions focused on how the meeting will be organised and conducted, including participation, format and expected outcomes.
The 2026 High Level Meeting, to be convened at the United Nations headquarters, is expected to set new global targets in the HIV and AIDS response and align international commitments with the Global AIDS Strategy 2026 to 2031.
