MBABANE – Botswana President Duma Boko is undertaking a working visit to the Sultanate of Oman from April 12 to 14, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the President in Gaborone on April 12, the visit follows President Boko’s official engagement in Muscat in 2025, which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Botswana and Oman in October that year.
Since formal ties were sealed, cooperation between the two countries has gathered pace, including a visit to Botswana in 2025 by a high level business delegation from Oman.
During the three day programme in Oman, President Boko will hold official talks with His Majesty Haitham bin Tarik. The discussions are aimed at consolidating and expanding cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest, particularly energy and natural resources.
The two leaders are also expected to witness the signing of three agreements covering partnerships in solar energy, minerals and oil. The agreements form part of Botswana’s broader economic diplomacy drive to attract investment and increase national revenue.
As part of the itinerary, President Boko will tour the Sohar Port and Free Zone, one of Oman’s major industrial and logistics hubs, to gain insight into its infrastructure development and operational models.
He is accompanied by senior government officials and is scheduled to return to Gaborone on April 14, 2026. During his absence, Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe will serve as Acting President of the Republic of Botswana.
