Mbabane – The Municipal Council of Mbabane joined hands with the South African High Commission, led by H.E. Ms. Mmaikeletsi Dube, to commemorate Nelson Mandela International Day under the theme “It’s Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequity.”
Mayor of Mbabane, Mr. Thulani Mkhonto, and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Gciniwe Fakudze, spoke on the value of community service during the observance, calling on residents to work together in confronting poverty and inequality across the capital.

Drawing on the late statesman’s legacy, the South African High Commission and the Municipal Council set aside 67 minutes of service at the Sidwashini Social Centre. Members of the team planted seedlings as part of efforts to encourage environmental sustainability, and went on to dish out nutritious meals to children and the elderly gathered at the centre.

The Sidwashini Social Centre feeds roughly 85 children with two meals each day, a routine that made the day’s programme a fitting boost to the surrounding community.
