MBABANE – The Eswatini Revenue Service has urged taxpayers to regularly update their personal, business and banking details through the TaxEase online portal to avoid missed communication, delayed refunds and the exposure of confidential tax information to unauthorised people.

ERS Marketing and Communications Manager Nduduzo Dlamini and Taxpayer Education and Information Manager Cebolenkhosi Mahlalela discussed the online profile maintenance service during Market View’s Tax Talk programme on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Dlamini said registering for a Tax Identification Number was not a once off process, as taxpayers had an ongoing duty to keep their information with ERS current.

“Registering or having a TIN with the ERS is an ongoing responsibility or an ongoing process,” Dlamini said.

She said individuals and businesses must update ERS whenever there was a change in physical address, postal address, email address, mobile number, banking details or responsible officials within a company.

“We really wish our clients to embrace the importance of maintaining their profile with us,” she said. “If there are any changes in your details, we expect that you update the ERS so that we hold accurate information about yourself [and] about your business.”

Dlamini said maintaining correct records helped ERS communicate with the appropriate taxpayer, particularly where confidential information about tax accounts was involved.

Mahlalela said updated profiles were necessary for ERS to send tax deadline reminders, system updates and other notices to taxpayers.

“If we do not have the correct email address [or] correct contact details, it means we will not be able to stay in contact with you in terms of any communication which we do at ERS,” he said.

He said incorrect banking information could also cause delays when the revenue authority processed refunds.

“Let’s say we do not have the correct banking details. It means those funds would be sent to the wrong bank account, which will then cause delays for both ERS and our clients,” Mahlalela said.

Taxpayers can now update their records electronically through TaxEase, the ERS self service portal, instead of completing forms and visiting ERS offices to queue for assistance.

Dlamini said the online service was designed to make profile maintenance quicker and more convenient for taxpayers.

“Gone are the days where you would fill in long forms and join queues just so that an official of the ERS would update your profile in the system,” she said. “Now we have made it easy for our clients. They can now do it online.”

Who can update a profile

ERS said access to profile updates is restricted to authorised individuals.

For sole traders, only the owner of the TIN can amend profile details. For registered companies, the nominated public officer is permitted to make the changes.

Mahlalela said other people with access to a taxpayer’s TaxEase account would not automatically have permission to update the taxpayer’s profile.

“Only the nominated public officer or the owner of the TIN, if it is a sole trader, will be able to update their profile,” he said.

He said this arrangement was intended to reduce the risk of unauthorised amendments to taxpayer information.

Taxpayers with more than one TIN linked to their account, including tax practitioners, must first select the TIN they intend to work on after logging into TaxEase.

How to update details

Dlamini said taxpayers should log into TaxEase, select the relevant TIN, and proceed to the profile option on the dashboard.

The process includes the following steps:

  1. Log in to the TaxEase portal.
  2. Accept the welcome message displayed by the system.
  3. Select the TIN that requires an update.
  4. Open the dashboard and scroll down to the profile option.
  5. Select “User Profile”.
  6. Amend the required details, including a postal address, mobile number, email address, bank details or responsible persons for different tax types.
  7. Follow the on screen prompts and verification requests.

ERS said the system may send one time passwords to a taxpayer’s mobile phone or email address during the process to verify submitted information.

Dlamini advised taxpayers to ensure they had their mobile phone and email access available before starting profile maintenance on the platform.

“One of the biggest benefits of online profile maintenance is that it is faster,” she said. “It ensures faster service and the changes just happen in real time.”

She said accurate records would allow taxpayers to receive timely updates about ERS workshops, deadline reminders and changes to tax related processes.

“It is also speaking to your compliance as well because if your profile is accurate, it means we will be talking to the right person,” Dlamini said.

She gave an example of a company whose former public officer remained listed on the ERS system, saying sensitive company information could continue being sent to someone no longer authorised to receive it.

ERS encouraged taxpayers to update information immediately when changes occur rather than waiting until they need a service or communication from the revenue authority.

“Profile maintenance is a daily thing. As soon as you have information to update, whether it is your email, your contact details, your address [or] your bank details, just update it immediately,” Mahlalela said.

ERS said a step by step guide would be made available through its social media platforms and YouTube channel. Taxpayers requiring assistance may contact ERS through WhatsApp on 7606 3735 or by telephone on 2464 0500.
