MSUNDUZA – Health and safety officials swooped on food outlets in Msunduza on Monday, seizing and destroying over a ton of expired and unfit food items during a joint inspection operation.
The Municipal Council of Mbabane led the crackdown in collaboration with the Eswatini Dairy Board, the Competitions Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, and the Royal Eswatini Police Service.
The operation covered 24 food establishments, including butcheries, restaurants, supermarkets, and small grocery shops. Authorities confiscated 1,100 kilograms of expired or spoiled food, along with 88 kilograms of a half bovine carcass found to be unfit for human consumption. 
The council said the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and protect public health in densely populated areas.
Consumers have been urged to be vigilant when purchasing food, particularly by checking expiry dates and reporting any suspicious products sold in shops or eateries.
