Maziya honoured with continental leadership award

Johannesburg – Honourable Savannah Maziya, Eswatini’s Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, has received the Leadership Category Award at the Annual Predecessors Awards 2025 Africa Edition. The ceremony took place on 6 December at The Revival City in Midrand, Johannesburg, where leaders from across the continent gathered to celebrate individuals whose work continues to influence communities and transform nations.

The Awards, which run across several continents, are known for recognising people whose contributions often remain unnoticed despite their significant societal impact. Convened by Relevant Achievers Impacting Nations together with the World Conference of Mayors, the Africa Edition has previously honoured former Ghanaian President K. Addo Kufuor, former Eswatini Prime Minister A. T. Dlamini and other global innovators, public servants and philanthropists.

Minister Maziya told attendees that the honour encourages her continued dedication to the development of STEM fields for women and girls in Eswatini and beyond. She noted that Eswatini’s contribution to global progress aligns with His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision of a nation working towards first world status.

The Minister’s work has gained local and international attention through her STEM Future Pioneers Mentorship Program, which supports hundreds of girls, many from rural and underserved communities. Her global engagements continue to widen opportunities for young women pursuing science, innovation and digital entrepreneurship, placing her among the leading voices advocating for gender equity in technology.

Her role as Co Chair of the Global Sustainable Development Goal 5 Council has positioned her within global efforts driving women’s empowerment and gender equality. Her philanthropy has also contributed to building inclusive spaces in STEM and ICT, particularly for groups often left behind.

The recognition comes during a year in which the Minister has collected multiple honours for her leadership in STEM, ICT development and public service excellence. In 2025 she received the Visionary Leadership in Transforming ICT and STEM Education Award from Space Kidz India, the Outstanding Record Breaker Award at the Eswatini Customer Service Excellence Awards and the Guest of Honour Award of Excellence for her contribution to dignity driven public service.

Her Ministry also secured Innovation of the Year and Government Ministry of the Year for the Government in Your Hand initiative, which has redefined citizen access to public services. She was further celebrated with the BlueSheroes Award 2025 by Standard Bank for her leadership in advancing women’s participation in digital innovation.
