Man held over grandmother’s killing in Mavula

Piggs Peak – Police at Pigg’s Peak have arrested and charged a 27-year-old man from the Mavula area in connection with the killing of his 74-year-old grandmother.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service said the incident happened on February 8 2026 at about 1430 hours at Mavula under the Pigg’s Peak policing area. Officers said the suspect allegedly attacked the elderly woman at her homestead.

According to information gathered by police the suspect had earlier demanded that his grandmother accompany him to his in laws to retrieve his wife, who had reportedly left the marriage following irreconcilable differences. It is alleged that when the grandmother did not comply, he assaulted her.

Police further said that on the following day the suspect allegedly attempted to attack his four year old child with a knife. The grandmother intervened to protect the child. Investigators said the suspect then turned on the elderly woman, stabbing her once before striking her several times on the head.

After the incident the suspect allegedly tried to flee the scene but members of the community pursued and apprehended him. Police were called and took him into custody.

The suspect is expected to appear in court today.
