PIGGS PEAK – A new community driven digital training programme has taken root in Nginamadvolo, where young people are swapping idle time for computer lessons in a bid to strengthen their employment prospects.
On 08 April 2026, Nginamadvolo Alliance Church joined hands with Piggs Peak iHub and its technology education partner Eswatini Tech Academy to launch an eight week Basic Computing programme aimed at equipping local youth with practical digital skills.
The initiative, held at Nginamadvolo in the Piggs Peak area, brings together church leadership and technology trainers in response to growing unemployment and stiff competition for entry level jobs. Organisers say the training is designed to provide participants with tools that can be applied immediately in administrative and office environments.
The course covers data capturing, database fundamentals, word processing, internet usage and professional email communication. These skills are considered essential in modern workplaces where basic computer literacy is now a minimum requirement.
The first session introduced participants to Microsoft Excel, focusing on basic functions and an overview of spreadsheets. For many of the attendees, it was their first structured interaction with data and formulas. Others saw it as an opportunity to gain clarity on software they had previously encountered but never fully understood. Lessons were practical, with learners working directly on computers rather than listening to theory.
“This initiative is a clear mark of transformation where learning becomes opportunity and skills become empowerment,” said a representative of the iHub.
Sessions will continue throughout the coming weeks, gradually expanding into broader areas of computing. Should the programme meet its intended goals, organisers plan to introduce web development and basic programming, enabling participants to move beyond using digital tools to creating them.
The collaboration between the church and the innovation hub was coordinated by their respective management teams as part of wider efforts to build skills capacity in the Piggs Peak region. The training also forms part of preparations for a Career Expo Day scheduled for May 2026, where participants are expected to connect with potential employers and industry players.
