Siteki – The Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Appolo Maphalala, has officially launched the Sunrise Civic Center, the iRise Business Hub, and the Siteki Business Directory at Mawala Hall in Siteki, marking a new chapter in the town’s development journey.

The launch brought together the Mayor of Siteki Town Council, Bongisipho Dlamini, EU Ambassador Eva Maria, COSPE Country Director Ayanda Sigudla, and AMICAALL Director Sibongile Simelane, reflecting a broad multi-stakeholder commitment to community-driven development in the town.

Mayor Dlamini told those gathered that the initiative is the result of a year-long participatory process undertaken in partnership with COSPE, through which the community identified key priorities including the need for recreational facilities, employment opportunities, and access to essential health services.

“Under the YES Project, Mawala Hall is being transformed into a vibrant civic center, while the existing VCT facility is evolving into a fully operational Business Hub. These developments are structured around three core pillars: promoting recreation and personal growth through safe community spaces; driving economic empowerment via access to information, internet services, business networks and enhancing health and well-being through inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health services,” Mayor Dlamini said.

In his keynote address, Minister Maphalala commended the Siteki Town Council for demonstrating progressive leadership and stressed the importance of community ownership in development initiatives. He said sustainable solutions must come from within communities, with external partners playing a supporting role in accelerating and scaling those solutions.

“I applaud the inclusive approach adopted, particularly the deliberate involvement of youth, school learners, and community groups in shaping the project,” the minister said.

The event was rounded off with a symbolic tree planting ceremony by Minister Maphalala, signifying growth, sustainability, and the start of a new chapter for the people of Siteki.
