Matsapha – The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) is working towards establishing a framework for licensing a cooperative bank in the Kingdom, drawing on international best practices to make the vision a reality.
This was revealed during the 7th Eswatini Association of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCO) Indaba, where the CBE Governor spoke through Chief Operations Officer Mfanfikile Dlamini.
Dlamini told participants that supporting SACCOs to unlock opportunities within the financial services sector is one of the CBE’s key focus areas, noting the critical role SACCOs play in driving national economic development in Eswatini.
He said the CBE is prepared to engage and provide guidance for SACCOs to explore opportunities brought about by developments in fintech and payments, with the aim of broadening the services they offer to their members.
