Mbabane – The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) is pushing to bring back the Export Credit Guarantee Scheme, which has been dormant since 2009, with the aim of helping Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) produce goods for the export market.
The call was made on Thursday during a workshop in Mbabane that brought together commercial banks, development finance institutions, and MSMEs. Director of Financial Regulation Lungile Dlamini, speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, urged all parties to work together to support local producers and strengthen the country’s economy.
“Let us explore practical ways to revive the Export Credit Guarantee Scheme, which has been idle since 2009. The scheme is important to boost exports, strengthen reserves, and unlock growth for local businesses,” Dlamini said.
The Export Credit Guarantee Scheme works alongside the Small-Scale Enterprise Loan Guarantee Scheme (SSELGS).
