Lobamba – His Majesty King Mswati III has publicly said that the kingdom is currently planning the construction of a new 40,000-seat national stadium.
Speaking at the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) Ingwenyama Cup finals, the king stated that sports are vital in society because they form people’s talents, before adding that it was past time for the country to build a new stadium.
“We are happy with sports because they shape Emaswati to master their talents in sports. We can now attest that the country now needs to get a new stadium,” he said.
The king said it would be very beautiful to have a stadium that can accommodate at least 40 000, stating that the stadium would not be the remodeling of the Somhlolo National Stadium but actually newly constructed. The stadium with an approximate capacity of 20 000 spectators was built in 1968 to mark the country’s independence.

The king said he hopes for a stadium that would leave a legacy. He stated that it is currently being designed.
“We are hopeful that our designers are working hard to deliver the desired stadium where we would play sports and showcase our traditional and cultural activities. The nation should gather in it beautifully,” he said.
The king also spoke about the final match between Nsingizini Hotspurs FC and Green Mamba FC during halftime. His Majesty, who stayed throughout the match, said he was following the game quite well and it was all about fair play. He also said he wished no one would go home hurt by the final score.
“We are happy to see this great event and that the nation is happy. We wish to see this happiness prolonged,” His Majesty said.
