Ezulwini – The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs is hosting a three-day SADC Regional Climate Transparency Training at Happy Valley in Ezulwini, running from 19 to 21 May 2026, bringing together regional countries to strengthen their capacity to meet international climate reporting requirements.
The training aims to support the preparation of improved Biennial Transparency Reports and build compliance with the Enhanced Transparency Framework, while fostering regional collaboration across SADC member states.
Day one, held on Monday 19 May, was officially opened by Acting Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Duduzile Nhlengethwa-Masina, with participation from the Commonwealth Secretariat, UNEP, UNFCCC and SADC.
The opening day focused on laying the foundation for stronger climate transparency systems and effective reporting across the region. Sessions drew on experience-sharing among SADC countries, with participants reviewing progress, discussing lessons from their first climate reports, and identifying practical solutions to common challenges. Experts also guided countries on how to strengthen greenhouse gas data collection, improve accuracy, and meet international reporting standards for more reliable and consistent climate reporting.
At the close of the training on Thursday, the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs is expected to officially launch the SADC Regional Climate Transparency Hub. The hub will be hosted by the Government of Eswatini within the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Research at the University of Eswatini.
