Wenzhou, China – China has evacuated nearly two million people as Typhoon Bavi made landfall on the eastern coastline of the country.
Three days before to the east coast’s populated cities experiencing intense rains and strong winds on Saturday, China issued a red notice. This led to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people and the cancellation of flights in the impacted areas. Flight cancellations and less tube activity were among the precautions put in place, along with the suspension of tourist sites, schools and public events in high-risk areas. People were advised to stay inside and keep away from mountainous and coastal regions.
The most affected areas were in Zhejiang province, one of China’s economic tech hubs. According to Reuters, Zhejiang’s coastal Yuhuan city was battered at around 11:20 p.m. (1520 GMT) on Saturday before Bavi made a second landfall in Yueqing, part of the city of Wenzhou, at around midnight. 
CGTN reported that winds from 120 km to 140 km per hour placed the typhoon at category 10, reaching Huadian Wind Farm in the waters northwest of Pishan Island in Yuhuan, Taizhou.
China’s National Meteorological Center was quoted forecasting Bavi to have, by Sunday afternoon, moved into the eastern Anhui province to turn northeast before entering the northern Yellow Sea on Tuesday.
According to Reuters, Bavi is expected to rain heavily across the provinces of Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui from Monday. People in those areas are advised to expect flooding in its second wave.
