King Mswati III, Queen Mother, Eswatini mourn Sheikh Hamad

Mbabane – His Majesty King Mswati III and Her Majesty the Queen Mother have sent messages of condolences to the State of Qatar for the passing of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

After ruling Qatar for eighteen years, Sheikh Hamad, who is credited with transforming the oil-rich Gulf state into a global superpower, passed away at the age of seventy-four, a statement by the Amiri Diwan said here, https://www.diwan.gov.qa/en/briefing-room/news/general/statements/2026/july/12/statement-from-amiri-diwan

Eswatini’s Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini conveyed Their Majesties’ condolences to the Qatari people, who are in a four-day state of mourning.

“The Kingdom of Eswatini conveys its deepest condolences to the Government and the People of the State of Qatar on the passing of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

“On behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government, and the People of the Kingdom of Eswatini, we extend our heartfelt sympathies and join the people of Qatar in mourning the loss of a distinguished statesman whose dedicated service, humility, and steadfast commitment to the advancement of his nation earned him the admiration and respect of the international community,” Dlamini said in a brief statement on Sunday. 

Her Majesty the Queen left for the United Arab Emirates for an official visit and medical attention over a week ago but she is in Abu Dhabi.

The prime minister said Sheikh Hamad’s legacy of leadership and public service will endure as an inspiration for generations to come.

He stated that Eswatini stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the State of Qatar during this period of national mourning. 

“We pray that they may find strength and comfort in the enduring legacy of his life and service and that his memory may continue to inspire generations to come.”
