Gaborone – Staff members from Botswana’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism have put their June 16 celebration funds to good use, pooling their contributions to buy school uniforms and stationery for two vulnerable children ahead of the 2026 academic year.

The initiative, driven by the Department of Corporate Services, saw employees voluntarily set aside money raised during last year’s Youth Day celebrations to assist children in need during the cold winter months.

The gesture went beyond a simple donation. During internal discussions about the outreach, several staff members opened up about their own difficult childhoods, sharing memories of attending school barefoot or in torn uniforms. Those personal stories pushed the team to turn their contributions into something meaningful.

The two children who benefited received warm new school uniforms and essential stationery supplies, giving them a better start to the academic year.
