Abu Dhabi – Central Bank of Eswatini Deputy Governor Felicia Dlamini-Kunene last week represented the Kingdom at the UAE-Africa Women Leaders Conference, a high-level gathering of ministers and women leaders focused on sharing expertise, strengthening cooperation and advancing women’s role in leadership and development.
She was joined by Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Savannah Maziya and SEDCO Chief Executive Officer Khethiwe Mhlanga.
At the conference, Dlamini-Kunene shared how the CBE has been working to embed gender considerations into its monetary policy, telling delegates that a 2018 survey had revealed that many Emaswati, particularly women, were being excluded from monetary policy processes.
“A 2018 survey revealed that many, especially women, were excluded from Monetary Policy. In response, we developed a Financial Inclusion Strategy and a Gender Inclusive Roadmap, now being implemented. By making financial inclusion an explicit objective, we ensure women participate effectively in the economy. This includes engaging regulated entities to adopt a gender lens, address unique circumstances, and remove structural barriers,” she said.
