RSR Chief Executive Officer Brian Monakali said the awards were established with a clear purpose.

“The Rail Industry Awards were established to recognise the individuals and organisations that are not only driving operational excellence and innovation, but who are actively contributing towards a safer railway system for South Africa and the region. As the Railway Safety Regulator, we believe that safety must remain at the centre of rail modernisation, investment and industry growth. These Awards are therefore an important platform to reinforce accountability, celebrate progress and encourage a stronger safety culture across the sector,” Monakali said.

The 2026 awards will recognise achievement across 14 categories, including the Railway Rising Star Award, Rail Logistics Supply Chain Excellence, Environmental Sustainability Leaders in Rail, Best SADC Region Initiative, Railway Security Excellence Award, Pioneering Applied Rail Research, Outstanding Woman in Rail, Rail Operator of the Year, Outstanding Nominated Manager, Outstanding Safety Critical Grades covering train drivers and train control operators, Lifetime Achievement Award, Exceptional Asset Maintenance, Excellence in Training and the Leadership Award.

The RSR said the awards also serve to celebrate individuals and teams working behind the scenes to keep rail operations safe, reliable and efficient across the region.

Further details on nomination criteria, submission guidelines and adjudication processes will be published through the RSR’s official communication platforms from 1 June 2026.
