Maseru – Lesotho has broken ground on a Digital Outreach Studio at Makoanyane Square in Maseru and signed three landmark digital policies on the same day, marking what the government describes as a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.

Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation Nthati Moorosi officiated the sod-turning ceremony on 10 June 2026 before signing the Broadband Infrastructure Sharing Policy, the Data Management Policy and the Artificial Intelligence Policy at the same venue.

“Today, we are not merely turning the sod for a new building; we are laying the foundation for a future defined by innovation, opportunity and digital empowerment for all Basotho. This project reflects our vision of a connected nation where technology serves as a tool for social and economic transformation,” Moorosi said.

The Broadband Infrastructure Sharing Policy is intended to promote wider, more affordable and efficient access to connectivity across the country. The Artificial Intelligence Policy will guide the responsible adoption of emerging technologies for innovation and economic development, while the Data Management Policy will strengthen the governance, protection and effective use of data as a national resource.

The studio itself will serve as a national hub for digital content, innovation and entrepreneurship, giving young Basotho the skills and infrastructure to participate in multimedia production, digital marketing and the broader creative industries, while also opening avenues for enterprise development and income generation.

The project is a direct response to the Prime Minister’s declaration of youth unemployment as a national disaster, and is designed to create practical opportunities for young people in the creative economy.

It forms part of the e-Government Infrastructure Phase II Project, supported by the African Development Bank, which aims to strengthen digital services, promote inclusion and improve public service delivery across Lesotho.
