Windhoek – The City of Windhoek has taken another step in modernising its public transport system, introducing the PayPulse platform to make it easier for commuters to manage and top up their bus travel accounts.
The City’s Department of Urban and Transport Planning hosted an information-sharing session with internal stakeholders in partnership with Standard Bank’s PayPulse, aimed at strengthening engagement with staff who interact directly with public transport commuters.
The move builds on a fully cashless payment system that has been in place since August 2025, requiring all municipal bus users to travel using smart cards. 
Through PayPulse, commuters can register, manage and recharge their accounts remotely or at Woermann Brock supermarkets. The platform is designed to accommodate both smartphone and non-smartphone users, ensuring all commuters can safely and efficiently manage their transport funds.
Commuters can top up their bus tickets via USSD by dialling *140*6626#, entering their PayPulse Wallet PIN, selecting Pay, then Municipal Bus, entering the card number, selecting a top-up amount and confirming the transaction. A SMS confirmation is sent once the top-up is successful.
The City said a public awareness campaign would be rolled out to guide commuters on how to register and use the platform.
