Police in Pigg’s Peak have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of a 32-year-old man from Zibonele area.
The incident occurred on June 26 at about 2330 hours when the victim was assaulted multiple times all over his body.
Information gathered is that the victim and his partner were walking home from a drinking spot when a mob approached them. Without any prior argument or provocation, the mob attacked the victim, hacking him on the head with a bush knife and stabbing him several times all over the body while at Zibonele.
Police were called to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital where he is currently admitted and receiving care. The police are actively investigating the incident and collecting evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
The police later cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, saying “law but can trap communities in a vicious cycle of violence leading to the breakdown of social order. Let us allow justice to take its course.”
