Johannesburg – South African businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, who faces corruption, money laundering, and attempted murder accusations, has been summoned to appear before the Madlanga Commission next week.
Matlala is due to appear on July 7, on the condition that he not be questioned about the Medicare24 deal.
Matlala has turned state witness, pleading guilty to fraud, corruption, and money laundering charges stemming from the SAPS tender.

His counsel stated that it was still a pending case under his plea agreement with the NPA. The prosecution had proposed a seven-year prison suspended out of a 15-year sentence.
However, Judge Ignatius du Preez, sitting at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, imposed a 12-year sentence, rejecting the Matlala-NPA deal.
This is a sad sentence. Instead, he and the parties must go back to the drawing board because they did not achieve an agreement on the judge’s ruling. The case will be heard again in court on July 13 to be finalised.
