Ezulwini – His Majesty King Mswati III is anticipated to be approached to offer his approval for a combined parliamentary sitting to ratify at least 23 protocols and international agreements that Eswatini may embrace.
The international legal documents have now passed through both chambers of parliament, the House of Assembly and the Senate, with senators working on them on July 9-10, 2026.
Lindiwe Dlamini, the Senate president, noted that once legislators have met, the process will be to allow a joint sitting, likely including the use of Section 117 of the Eswatini Constitution of 2005, as this is a special occurring scenario. 
The article authorises His Majesty King Mswati III to convene a joint sitting in response to certain situations such as a deadlock, constitutional revisions, or a state of emergency.
According to section 117(1), “Where a bill, having been passed by both chambers of Parliament sitting separately, is presented to the King for assent, the King, acting in his discretion, may by message refer back such provisions of the bill as the King may indicate for consideration at a joint sitting of the Senate and the House in accordance with the provisions of the First Schedule.”
