Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has held a strategic meeting with South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, in Cape Town to discuss the future of Africa’s digital economy.

The two ministers sat down to talk about digital infrastructure and the role of leadership in driving meaningful digital transformation across the continent, matters that directly affect Eswatini and other African nations working to bridge the digital divide.

The International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations agency responsible for digital technologies, also featured prominently in their discussions, particularly its role as a global platform for advancing inclusive digital transformation and connecting the 2.2 billion people around the world who remain unconnected.

Dr. Tijani described the meeting as a valuable engagement, saying: “It was a pleasure to visit Cape Town to meet with my brother, H.E. Solly Malatsi, South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, for a strategic conversation on the future of Africa’s digital economy, particularly the importance of digital infrastructure and the urgent role of leadership in driving meaningful digital transformation across our continent.”

The two ministers also discussed the upcoming African Telecommunications Union Plenipotentiary, which Nigeria is set to host in July, as well as the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference scheduled for Qatar. Key elections that will shape the future direction of the Union were also on the table during the Cape Town talks.
