PRETORIA — Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Grace Mutembo, met with former South African President Thabo Mbeki in Pretoria to discuss regional cooperation and ways to protect Africa’s shared history.
During the courtesy call, the two leaders reflected on the deep historical ties connecting South Africa and Zambia. The discussion focused on a new project led by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, which is working to establish a dedicated Pan African library in South Africa.
The library aims to document the achievements of key African statesmen while serving as a hub for research and learning across the continent. 
Mbeki revealed that his foundation has already started sourcing historical documents and materials related to Zambia’s founding father, Dr Kenneth Kaunda. He pointed out that Kaunda’s role remains a central piece of the shared struggle and history of Zambia, South Africa, and the surrounding region.
Mutembo welcomed the foundation’s efforts, noting that safeguarding Africa’s past is crucial for fostering unity and deeper understanding among its people.
