MBABANE – The Eswatini Environment Authority and the Eswatini Environment Fund have convened a high level meeting with key government ministries as part of efforts to strengthen climate finance coordination in the country.

The meeting, held recently in Mbabane, brought together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs. The discussions centred on the transformation of the Eswatini Environment Fund into a more structured and coordinated national financing mechanism.

Officials said the move is aimed at creating a central system to manage environmental and climate change funding more effectively. The initiative seeks to ensure that Eswatini is better positioned to access and utilise financial resources linked to global environmental agreements.

Through improved coordination, the country is expected to enhance its eligibility and readiness to tap into funding streams under the three Rio Conventions, namely the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC, the Convention on Biological Diversity CBD, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD.
