Peace talks between the US and Iran are underway in Switzerland following the signing of an initial agreement to end the war last week, which Iran says US ally Israel is violating by striking Lebanon shortly after the Israeli-Hezbollah ceasefire was announced. Iran sprung up, saying it had shut the vital shipping Strait of Hormuz route on Saturday.
Iran said it would be “demanding that the other side fulfil its commitments”. The US delegation, led by the US Vice President, JD Vance, said it was hopeful for progress on the nuclear issue and the Lebanon resolution. Both sides have 60 days to agree on a peace deal.
Lebanon came in when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in retaliation for a strike that killed Iran’s supreme leader. Israel retaliated, striking Lebanon and other territories in the south in a pushback against Hezbollah fighters from Israel’s northern border. 
Vance is reportedly joined in Switzerland by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi. Qatar and Pakistan serve as mediators. Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, is joined by Field Marshal Asim Munir, the commander of the armed forces.
On the table are a $300bn (£224bn) Iran reconstruction plan and talks that the US must remove all types of sanctions.
